About the Opportunity
At Janaagraha, we work to transform the quality of life in urban India by strengthening how cities are planned, designed, governed, and funded.
Janaagraha is looking for full-time interns who will work with them for six months (July – December 2026). If you are passionate about public policy, local governance, cities and tackling the challenges they face, we’d love to learn more about you through this application!
This is a paid, in-office opportunity to work on research and analysis related to municipal governance, public finance, decentralisation, and more. You will contribute to projects that help strengthen city systems and local governments across India.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Collect and analyse data related to urban governance including but not limited to municipal staffing, status of devolution of funds, functions and functionaries in cities/states, municipal budgets, etc.
- Conduct research on existing municipal acts, regulations, and policies in various cities/states
- Assist in drafting thematic notes on urban governance issues
- Track important developments in the urban policy sector
- Assist with general administrative tasks, such as scheduling meetings, taking notes, and maintaining records, and other tasks the team requires from time to time
Eligibility Criteria
- Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent in law, Development Studies, Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences or related disciplines
- Proficiency in MS Office suite particularly Excel, Word and PowerPointwith knowledge of analysis of data & visualization
- Previous research or work experience related to the field of urban governance/law and policy is preferred
